Basics Of Possum Puckin
One begins by adopting from our 'passel of possums' or make your own.
Then get ya'll a pucking stick that passes the dat blame rules.. The pucking stick is of natural wood only and the business end is no wider then the first two knuckles of pointer finger. You may whittle a flat spot on the end of your puckim stick, but no wider they two knuckles wide.
Now get your possum and, after giving the fore warning cry of "Yee Haw", one pucks off! Failing to cry "Yee Haw!" before pucking results in a "Stroke penalty!"
The pucking continues until every pucker achieves the goal. The pucker with the fewest strokes is victorious!
Any conflicts are resolved by Kimberly. Kimberly's rules can be changed at any time to her discretion
Possum Puck is a game much like the Scottish game of Golf, but much more fun! Instead of a ball and a club, Possum Puck is played with a Possum and a stick.
The basic 'Possum Puckin' shot starts with your Possum lying upon the ground. Then put the tip of your stick under your possum and using your foot to settle your possum upon the end of your stick. The possum is then pucked. There are a wide variety of shots that can be made in the game of Possum Puck.
Here is a list of some of the basic rules of Possum Puck.
Hitting a guest of Beyond Yonder is a "Stroke penalty. If a guest of the gathering touches your possum it is also a stroke penalty. You may position your possum with your hand only on the first puck, there after you may position only with your foot.
It's not the stick, but the skill of the pucker that counts!
AS FOR THE POSSUM ITSELF: HERE IS HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ( we will have them available already made if you do not want to make one yourself) .
The first "possums" were kinda on the fly...last year's were prototypes. The possums that I make this year will be made from burlap and be roughly like the ones from last year...but perhaps with bigger heads. We'll have markers and paints available so that you can decorate your possum. Here's the specifics for making your own:
First off...you can make your possom out of any material you like. However, the heavier the material, the less likely chance that it will fly apart or develop a "seam issue".
The body should not be longer than 12 inches...not including the tail. The tail can be made from whatever material you prefer (as long as it is not injurious to other folks it may hit). The tail should not be over 8 inches long.
The possum should be stuffed with not more than one (1/2) cup of dried beans, rice, or the small plastic pellets inside discarded stuffed animals. I've found that the beans and pellets seem to "fly" the best. Where you position the beans inside your possum, is up to you. Polyfill stuffing is then used to finish stuffing the possum (or whatever you may have handy). double stitching the seams is also a wonderful idea!! I used upholstery thread last year, and some of the seams still gave way.
Altogether, your possum should not weigh more than 8oz. Please don't be "weighting" your possums, folks! You WILL be disqualified! Let's keep it fun and try to not to knock out the bystanders
